HC notices to central, state govts over flood water in Barmer
Jodhpur, Nov 14 (UNI) The Rajasthan High Court has issued showcause notices to the state and central governments for laxity in rehabiltation of the flood-affected people of Barmer district and in finding a permanent solution to drain out the flood water from Kawas village.
A High Court bench comprising Chief Justice S N Jha and Justice Mohammad Rafique, yesterday asked the state and central governments to reply within a week, after hearing the initial appeals of advocate Marudhar Mridul, who filed a PIL on behalf of Mohanraj.
The PIL said that Kawas village was still submerged under flood water and the state government was not taking any concrete steps to find a solution to this problem.
The flood waters have affected the functioning of Railways, banks, schools, hospitals. The special committee, formed to address the issue, had proposed to the state government that the flood water be directed into River Luni but till now there had been no action.
The PIL said more than 4,000 people were shelterless but the state government had not taken any steps to rehabilitate the victims.
The PIL also appealed to the court to urge the state and central governments to provide monetary assistance for the proper rehabilitation of the people in Kawas.
