Former tribal kings dispute freedom fighter's claim of land in Dangs

Surat, Nov 13 (UNI) Four former tribal kings in the Dangs district submitted a memorandum to the district collector opposing the demand of Purnima Pakwasa, Gandhian social activist and freedom fighter, who is on a hunger strike in Saputara since last Monday.

In a memorandum submitted to district collector, four former tribal rulers of the Dangs area, Dhanrajsingh Chandrasingh of Vasurna, Trikaramrao Sahebrao of Pimpri, Karansingh Yashwantrao of Gadhvi and Santaram Bakul of Vasurna said that the land which Purnima Pakwasa claims actually belongs to the tribals.

The memorandum, a copy of which is with the UNI, says that the entire land of the Dangs district actually belonged to the Adivasis, which was later handed over to government for development activities.

The memorandum also alleges that by claiming the land Ms Pakwasa is blocking a Navodaya Vidyalaya which will be a boon to the tribal children.

However, sources at Rithambara Vishwa Vidyalaya (RVV), an NGO which runs a free school for the tribal girls says that Ms Pakwasa is not against the Navodaya Vidyalaya.
