Failure to settle World Cup hosting rights caused Shahryar's ouster
Lahore, Nov 14 (UNI) Pakistan's 'failure' to settle the hosting rights of the 2011 World Cup final with India may have been one of the reasons behind Shahryar Khan's ouster as PCB chief.
Quoting sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board, 'The Nation' reported that the ex-PCB President was shown the door because of his failure to settle the matter.
''Although it is not the only reason, but it played a part in causing Shaharyar Khan's exit,'' the newspaper quoted the sources as saying.
The PCB is currently on collision course with the BCCI over hosting the final of the event and the matter will come up for dicussion at a meeting next month. India will get to host the maximum number of league matches (22) in the event, while Pakistan will be hosting 16. The venue for the final is yet to be decided and the two sides will make a final decision at the next month's meeting.
Mr Khan had reportedly told PCB Patron-in-chief Gen Pervez Musharraf that Pakistan would get the right to host the final and also manage to get a greater share of league matches. However, as things stand the PCB has managed neither and the failure contributed to the reasons for his ouster.
The PCB is being seen to have surrendered to the pressure from India and according to some confidential documents should have got the right to host both the semifinals on losing out the final.
''The country which would have been deprived of final was eligible to host both semi-finals according to that plan,'' said the sources.
