Mumbai car accident: Alistan Pareira in custody
Mumbai, Nov 14: A local court today remanded till November 18 Alistan Pareira, whose car rammed into a pavement at Carter road in Bandra, killing six labourers including three women and two children, and injured eight others last Sunday, to police custody till november 18.
Pareira was produced before the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate L M Gajbhiye at Bandra court this afternoon. The accused was remanded to police custody till November 18.
He was booked under sections 304 (b) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (Rash driving) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, his defence advocate had argued before the court that there was no intention of his client to kill anyone. It was an accident so that section 304 (b) was not applicable on him, he argued The Toyota Corolla, driven by Pareira, overturned running over the labourers sleeping on the footpath, crushing six to death at about 0400 hours on sunday.
