Political activists clash with police, 1 killed in Dhaka

Dhaka, Nov 13: One person was killed and several others were injured today, during a clash between police and political activists in the capital, the second day of the siege enforced by major opposition parties seeking resignation of Chief Election Commissioner M A Aziz for neutral parliamentary polls.

The clash broke out this noon when police tried to disperse Awami League workers who were holding a rally thereby blocking the road.

On being dispersed the angry workers set afire a police van near Hotel Sonargaon crossing in central Dhaka.

Police used tear gas shells and rubber bullets to control the mob hurling stones at them. An unidentified man aged about 38 died in the clash. Witnesses said he was run over by a police car during the chase and counter chase.

The indefinite siege at road-rail-waterway battered normal life and businesses across Bangladesh. The capital Dhaka remains snapped from rest of the country as road and rail communications were disrupted.
