Mithi stresses need for infrastructure development in Arunachal

Itanagar, Nov 13 (UNI) Pondicherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi has stressed on the need for creation of more infrastructure and tourist amenities in Arunachal Pradesh to transform the Himalayan state as an attractive tourist destinations.

''People as well as the state government should avail the benefits extended by the Centre for all-round development of the state,'' Mr Mithi said while talking to UNI at Tawang in the sidelines of the Buddha Mahotsava, the mega tourism event, celebrated here recently.Pointing out at the immense hydro-power potential of the state, the former chief minister advocated for giving more emphasis in this sector for development of the state.

He said he had tried his level best to give proper exposure to Arunachal Pradesh to attract more central funds to the state.

''Though my work place is Pondichery, my heart is in Arunachal and whenever I get opportunity, I try to pursue the Union ministers to give special attention to my state,'' he added.

Stating that proper marketing should be done in the tourism sector so that more inflow of tourists could be recorded in the state, the Lt. Governor stressed on proper road connectivity to various tourist circuits and destinations of the state.

Referring to the possibilities of border trade with neighbouring Bhutan, China and Myanmar through Arunachal, Mr Mithi said that trade would not only improve the economy of the state but would benefit the entire North East region.

''Before we start for successful trade with these countries, we should ensure that such trade would benefit all,'' he added.
