Major tragedy averted at IAF air-show in city
Ahmedabad, Nov 13 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted when two aircraft of the famous Surya Kiran team of Indian Air Force (IAF) made feather-touch friction while they were airborne while performing 'Mirror Image' exercise during the air-show here yesterday.
The IAF Public Relation Officer T K Singha told UNI that the incident took place while the two Surya Kiran aircraft were performing manoeuvres to create a mirror image of each other during the air-show.
However, timely reactions by both the IAF pilots averted a major tragedy, Mr Singha said.
Later, the aircraft made an emergency landing and were inspected thoroughly. No noticeable damage was caused to either of the aircraft, Mr Singha added.
The air show was organised to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the IAF.
On the occasion, thousands of school children, among others, witnessed the grand display of valour.
The response to the air show was so enormous that the city faced its biggest traffic jam ever that lasted for over three hours.
Police estimated that over two lakh people were present at the air show.
