Maharastra poise to win national shooting championship
Asansol, West Bengal, Nov 13 (UNI) Maharastra is poised to clinch the team championship after claiming eight gold and as many silver and bronze at the end of eighth day in the 16th All India G.V.Mavalankar Shooting competition at Chandmari range here.
Maharashtra, in the 10-day championship had been richer by splendid performaces of Ruia College (Dadar) shooters, who pocketed 15 medals out of Maharashtra's total 24 medals.
In the team championship, the Army was second with seven gold, six silver and five bronze medals so far.
Three new meet records were achieved by Maharastra and Army shooters of total six new marks.
In 10 mts Peep Sight Air Rifle for Sr women's Dhaneshree Sunil Kulkarni of Maharashtra made new meet record, scoring 391 points, breaking the earlier mark of Bibhuti Gunjal and Rupali Mahadevi (both had 387 points) at Thodupuzha (Punjab) in 2005. Silver and bronze medals went to Mahali Dinkar Sarang (Maharashtra) and Tina(Punjab).
Army's Hambir Singh, who earlier won gold in 24 mts sports pistol in junior meet, has created a new record in 25 mts Centre Fire Air rifle scoring 287 points.
In 10 mts Peep Sight Air rifle sub-junior (women) V S Kulkarni of Maharashtra scored 391 points, breaking earlier record of 387 points.
Hosts, West Bengal, having a dismal performance so far with only a gold that was bagged by 70-year-old Kalyan Banerjee in 50mts Small-bore-shooting. The state so far managed to have a gold and four bronze medal.
