British sports minister visiting India to offer help for CWG 2010
New Delhi, Nov 13 (UNI) The British Minister for Sport Richard Caborn will meet Indian ministers and officials involved with organising Commonwealth Games 2010 during his two-day official visit here from November 15 to 16.
Mr Caborn, who is leading a 19-member UK business delegation, will offer the best of British expertise in delivering and hosting high-quality major sporting events.
Speaking in London about his visit to New Delhi, Mr Caborn said: ''I am absolutely delighted to be visiting New Delhi at a time when the city is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games 2010. Delhi is a wonderful choice for the 'Friendly Games'. I believe that the cultural vibrancy of the city will ensure the games have their own very distinct flavour.'' He said the British and Indian Governments were working closely together to draw up a Memorandum of Understanding on Sport.
The business delegation includes companies that have been involved in delivering the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.
They represent companies that are experts in insurance for major sporting events, transport systems, crowd and VIP security, catering and hospitality, volunteering and sponsorship, temporary stadiums and post-event stadium use.
Mr Caborn will call on Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mani Shankar Ayer. He will also visit some of the Commonwealth Games sites, including the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Siri Fort and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
He will also meet members of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) to congratulate on winning the joint bid to host the Cricket World Cup in 2011. He will also share UK's experience in hosting cricket events and explore areas of co-operation.
