Bhopal, Nov 11 (UNI) A young filmmaker from Madhya Pradesh has been awarded the 'Hoso Bunka Foundation Prize', for the best programme idea category on educational TV programme, depicting the efforts of a teacher to improve educational standards.

Filmmaker Deepak Verma received the award, also known as Japan Prize, at a programme organised by the Japan Broadcasting Corp (NHK) in Tokyo recently.

Returning after his recent visit from the Japanese capital, Mr Verma said last year he had received nomination for the Japan Prize but missed the award.

Representatives from many big television companies took part in the event and subjects were nominated by an international jury from 12 countries.

''This is for the first time in India that anybody has received award in this category,'' he claimed.

''In this category, there are lots of entries and the idea should carry a universal appeal and creative input. It should be like a creative film for an international audience,'' he explained.

This year 67 entries from all over the world were received in this category.

Mr Verma said he was coming up with a film on the life of teachers from the state. The programme will be broadcast by a popular international-level television channel soon.

The award carries a trophy and a commitment to support the idea of the producer.
