Spurt in tourists in Dooars enhances tourism business

Siliguri, Nov 11 (UNI) Dooars' picturesque beauty has always attracted tourists worldwide and the phenomenal rise in their numbers in the last eight years have brought immense development here.

Dooars, a place in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, is home to large number of wild elephant, one horned Rhinos, Bison and a variety of species of both flora and fauna.

Jalpaiguri forest division officials said there had been a spurt in the number of tourists since 1998, which have contributed to the socio-economic growth and development of the place.

In 2004-05 it was 19,791 and during 2005-06 the number rose to 23,414, they further said.

Divisional forest officer (wildlife) Tapas Das told UNI that the increase in number of tourists in Doors is a sign of economic development and would enhance the tourism business.

Tourists from every nook and cranny of the country and even abroad come here specially to visit Gorumara National Park and Chapramari forest.
