Samba paddy cultivated sucessfully in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 11: Samba Musuri, a high yeilding variety of rice, was cultivated successfully at Bagmara area in Tripura's South District.

This is the first time that a new variety of seed had been cultivated on experimental basis in the entire North Eastern region, official sources said.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Reasearch (ICAR), who had brought out this new variety, had demonstrated infront of the farmers.

By sowing only 600 gram of seeds, the farmers have produced 1,400 kg of paddy in an acre. ICAR had provided seeds, fertilizers and medicines for the cultivation, official sources said.

The farmer's along with ICAR here today also organised a meet to mark the Kharif Rice day, sources said.

The Agricultural scientists also discussed with farmers on different aspects of rice cultivaton.

ICAR joint director N.P.Singh said about 400 farmers from Bagmara area participated in the meet.
