MP CM calls for freeing coops from political interference
New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Reiterating his commitment to the cooperative movement, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today declared that political intereference in the cooperative sector would be stopped by implementing the Vaidyanathan committee recommendations in his state.
Addressing the representatives of the cooperative institutions from all over the country in the second national convention of the Akhil Bhartiya Sahkar Samiti here, he said that his Government had imposed a ban on all the MPs and MLAs becoming office bearers of the cooperative institutions in the State by amending the law with a view to freeing the cooperative movement from political interference.
Besides, it has also been laid down that none can remain officed bearer of a coperative institutions beyond eleven years, the Chief Minister said.
Expressing concern over the increasing trend of farmers committing suicide, Mr Chouhan said that he had decided to give subsidy to farmers taking loans from cooperative banks in a bid to strenghten them.
Mr Chauhan said the farmers used to get loans from cooperative banks at the rate of 12 per cent interest, but now they would be able to get loan at seven per cent interest. The remaining five per cent interest would be paid by the state government.
