Imphal, Nov 11 (UNI) The Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) and other organisations have called for a dawn to dusk Manipur strike tomorrow protesting against the Tipaimukh project.

ACTIP co-convenor Kinderson Pamei said the organisation would also boycott the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Manipur.

About 29 organisations had earlier decided to go ahead with the strike after the government approved the construction of the Rs 6000 crore project.

The project will affect large parts of Manipur and some areas of Mizoram also, Mr Pamei said.

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), which will construct the dam, has flouted the rules and no public hearing on the issue had taken place so far, he added.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the state suffers from regular power crisis and Tipaimukh project would help overcome the problem and appealed to the people not to stage any kind of demonstrations.

Meanwhile, due to the proposed strike, all inter state passenger bus services have been cancelled.

All business and educational institutes will be closed.
