Imphal, Nov 11: Life was affected today following the 24 hour strike called by the Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) and other organisations in Manipur.

The strike was called from 6 am today to 6 pm tomorrow.

ACTIP co-convenor Kinderson Pamei said the organisation would also boycott the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Manipur.

About 29 organisations had earlier decided to go ahead with the strike after the government decided to go ahead with the construction of the Rs 6000 crore project.

The project will affect large portions of Manipur and some portion of Mizoram also, Mr Pamei said.

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), which would be constructing the dam, has flouted the rules and no public hearing on the issue was done so far, he said.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the state suffers from regular power crisis and Tipaimukh project would help us to overcome the problem.

Hence he had urged the people not to stage any kind of demonstrations and assured that the people would face no problems.

Meanwhile, due to the strike all inter state passenger bus services were cancelled.

All business and educational institutes were closed down.

So far no untoward situation had been reported according to police officials.
