UP govt resolves to sanitise system of mafias

Lucknow, Nov 10 (UNI) Taking strong exception on the court's order to prevent allocation of budget till mafias are removed from the system, Uttar Pradesh Assembly today resolved to find a solution of the directive, while the speaker has announced to call an all party meeting on the issue.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said the matter was very serious and announced to meet the leaders of all parties to find a solution to the court's directive.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said now the matter was very serious as it was a direct confrontation between the legislature and judiciary.

''We would have legal consideration before taking any decision,'' he said.

The CM said during the meeting the matter related to court's stay on transfers and suspension of government officials would also be taken up.

Raising the issue when the budget was being approved by the house, BJP member Hukum Singh said when the court has ordered stay on allocation of funds then what is the need of the third supplementary budget to the tune of Rs 179.92 crore.

Earlier, a single judge bench of the Allahabad High Court had directed the government not to pass budgetary allocation to any department which failed to remove the tender mafia prevailing in their respective departments.

The court directed the government to implement the order by December 1.
