SGI requested to appear in SC for President of India
New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court today requested the Solicitor General of India to appear for the Central Government and for President A P J Abdul Kalam in his capacity as Visitor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in a case challenging the order of the visitor of BHU annulling the appointment of the petitioner Dr Ashok Kumar Sonkar.
A bench comprising Justices A R Lakshmanan and Altamas Kabir in the order dated November 7, 2006 made the request after having been informed that due to some mistake in the title, the notice could not be served to the visitor.
The then President of India Dr K R Narayanan had passed the order of annulment of the appointment of Dr Sonkar on October 18, 2000 in his capacity as the visitor of the University.
