Septuagenarian sets record in national shooting

Asansol, Nov 10 (UNI) Seventy-year-old Kalyan Banerjee of West Bengal today set a record scoring 259 points in 50m small-bore-standard rifle shooting for mens' at the 16th All India G V Mavalankar shooting championship now being held at Chandmari range here.

He dethroned Kerala's Darius Marshall, who created record by scoring 254 points in Chennai edition of 2003.

Darius and Issac Jacob, also from Kerala, got silver and bronze scoring 225 and 221 points respectively.

Dr Banerjee brought first gold medal for host state.

Army's Preeti Pun who created new mark in 25mts Junior women sports pistol event here yesterday, earned another gold medal in the senior women event of 25mts sports pistol today with 271 points.

Rachna Devi of CRPF and Ramandeep Kaur of Army bagged silver and bronze medals respectively.

In 25 m Junior men's sports pistol event, Lakshya Bansal of Border Security Force won the gold medal scoring 274 points while Ruchit Dilip Kapadia of Maharashtra and Rana Gaurav singh of Uttar Pradesh pocketed silver and bronze medal scoring 261 and 252 points respectively.

Ajit Babu Rao Tawade of Maharashtra won the gold medal in the 50 mts men free pistol event followed by Avtar Singh of Punjab and Sachin Kumar of UP earned silver and bronze medal with 257 and 251 points.

In 50mts men Junior free pistol event Farooq Ali and Kamlesh Shah both from Army won gold and silver medal with 262 and 258 points respectively while Sachin Kumar of UP got bronze medal scoring 250 points.
