SC refuses CBI inquiry into Deve Gowda's assets
New Delhi, Nov 10: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking CBI inquiry into the assets of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly acquiring wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and P P Naolekar dismissed the petition of Mr K V Amarnath holding that the petition was misconceived and vague allegations were made.
The petitioner, claiming to be a social worker and a life member of Karnataka Bhrashtachar Virodhi Vedike, had alleged that Deve Gowda and his family members through illegal and corrupt means and by abusing his position as public servant acquired assets running into several crores of rupees.
The petition was dismissed by the Karnataka High Court and he filed this Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the High Court order dated December 18, 1998.
