Chennai, Nov 10: Digital technology leader, Samsung India Electronics Private Limited's new facility to be set up at Sriperumbudur, would be its global hub for South Asia and Middle east, R Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India said today.
Talking to newspersons after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government for setting up the facility, involving an investment of 100 million US dollars in five years, he said the project would be Samsung's pioneer and modern facilities.
While the site activity would begin in January next, the commercial production would start in August 2007, Mr Zutshi said adding barring handsets, the company would manufacture all its consumer products in the new facility.
LCD colour monitors, refrigerators, computers and Laser printers were some of the products to be manufactured in the new plant, being set up in 50 acres in Domestic Terminal Area (DTA) area and 30 acres of Special Economic Zone (SEZ). While the facility in DTA would cater to the domestic markets, the facility in SEZ would focus on exports to South Asia and Middle east countries, he informed.
Technologically, it would be more advanced than Samsung's facility in Noida, near Delhi, set up about ten years ago," he said.
