NRI convicted 20 yr after fleecing riot victim
New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) After 20 years of protacted legal examination, a city court today sentenced an NRI to a month's jail and fined him Rs 35,000 for trying to extract money from a 1984 anti-Sikh riot victim to get his compensation cheque.
Atma Ram was caught red-handed in April 1986 in Tis hazari court complex accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complaintant to get him his compensation cheque Rs 10,000.
Special Judge Sunil Gaur announced the verdict today after holding him guilty under sections 161 and 163 of the Indian Penal Code.
