No Mercy for Afzal; Shiv Sena appeal to Prez

New Delhi, Nov 10: The All India Hindu Shiv Sena (AIHSS) today appealed to President APJ Abdul Kalam to reject the mercy petition of Parliament attack mastermind Mohammad Afzal Guru and confirm the death sentence handed down to him by the Supreme Court.

The Organisation also demanded that a case be registered against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for ''expressing sympathy'' for the terrorist.

In a statement, AIHSS President Surinder Kumar Billa also threatened that if any leniency was shown and the sentence converted to life imprisonment, he would sit on an indefinite hunger strike before Parliament and then commit suicide. The Government would be responsible for it, he added.

Mr Billa said Afzal did not deserve any mercy and pardon. If he was released, terrorists would get emboldened and attack Parliament and other important places again. Therefore Afzal be hanged to death immediately, without any delay, he added.
