NLFT militants set afire tribal houses
Agartala, Nov 10: Many Reang tribals deserted their homes after National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) rebels rancksacked and torched their houses at Rajaram para in Tripura's south district recently, police said today.
Police said a group of armed NLFT (BM) rebels first attacked Rajaram Para, a Reang-dominated village at nearby Dhanraipara under Taidu police station on Wednesday. Later they ransacked Dhanrai village and set fire to at least ten houses in which seven persons, including women, received burn injuries.
According to a delayed report, the rebels were taking revenge after one of their men was killed in an encounter with the secucity forces on November 8.
About 57 Reang families were affected due to arsons as many people ran for life and took shelter nearby areas. The rebels also abducted two persons, who were later released after being beaten badly.
Local administration distributed relief materials to the affected families.
Senior police officials including Inspector General of state police (law and order), Superintendent of Police South District and Commandant of CRPF rushed to the spot with reinforcement.
