Modi accusing Centre to cover up his own failures: Modhwadia
Ahmedabad, Nov 10 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Arjun Modhwadia today alleged that Chief Minister Narendra Modi was hurling baseless accusations at the Centre to gain mileage for the impending elections in the state.
Mr Modi himself has no positive achievements to project before the people and, so, he is making allegations against the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, Mr Modhwadia told a press conference here.
Mr Modhwadia alleged that it was Mr Modi who had instigated the 2002 riots in order to occupy the chief minister's chair.
He further alleged that Gujarat, which ranked only next to Maharashtra in respect of attracting investments, has now slipped to the fifth place under Mr Modi's rule.
With respect to attracting foreign direct investments, the state presently has slipped to the sixth position while in respect of information technology and biotechnology sectors, it occupies the 20th position among the various states, Mr Modhwadia said.
When the national GDP is 8.4 per cent it is surprising that Gujarat should show a growth rate of merely 5.1 per cent, he said. On literacy field, Gujarat which earlier ranked 9th, now stands at the 15th place, he said.
Mr Modhwadia also criticised Mr Modi for spending ''crores of rupees on Vibrant Gujarat, Patangotsav and Navratri Mahotsav which were nothing but tamashas''.
