Literacy School Alumni Display Artifacts

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) Artifacts crafted by members and alumni of a hundred Jan Shikshan Sansthans across the country went on display at Dilli Haat this evening with Human Resource Development Minister Arjun cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

HRD officials said the five-day event-- called Kriti-- will enable artisans living in remote areas to find appreciation and customers in the Capital.

The products on display are the work of trainees in various trades and skills at nearly 100 Jan Shikshan Sansthans-- Institutes of Peoples Education-- across India.

Colourful and attractive knick knacks filled more than forty shops at the Haat which is frequented by shoppers both native and foreign.

Folk artistes from Rajasthan, Karnataka and Chandigarh performed dance and recitals.

Kriti is intended to help carve out a niche for the products.

The products on offer include Madhubani and Tanjore paintings, Sujani work, Applique works from Pipli, Bidri work as also Pearl and artificial jewellery, Handloom Saree, Cane and bamboo products, Patta Chitra and decorative and gel candles.

The proceeds will help in economic upliftment of disadvantaged sections of the society, HRD officials said.
