Kuwait Airways lands in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Nov 10 (UNI) Kuwait Airways has started it's sixth station in Ahmedabad from October 31, 2006 as Gujarat market is one of the strongest areas of international travel business in India, said''Fahad Al Dhafiri, Kuwait Airways Senior Regional Director, Indian subcontinent here today.

Addressing mediapersons, he said that Kuwait Airways has become the first carrier from the West Asia to operate direct services to Ahmedabad tri-weekly with Airbus A320 on Kuwait-Ahmedabad-Kuwait route.

The airline will offer immediate connections to a host of popular destinations in Gulf, West Asia, Europe and the US including non-stop services from Kuwait to New York.

Kuwait Airways is one of the oldest carriers operating in India having started services in 1959, Mr Dhafiri said. The airline operates 29 flights weekly from six online cities with daily services to both Delhi and Mumbai, four times weekly to Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and thrice weekly to Ahmedabad, Mr Dhafiri said.

Ahmedabad has joined Kuala Lumpur as the latest destinations on the Kuwait Airways network effective the winter schedule 2006-07.

To a query if the airways would be in competition with other airlines, Mr Dhafiri said ''We are not here to compete with others as we are only a scheduled Airline. We are not a low cost airline and we do not follow price cutting policy.'' As to Kuwait Airways increasing the frequency of flight from Ahmedabad, Mr Dhafiri said their operations are based on the bilateral pact between India and Kuwait following the 'open skies policy'. The bilateral pact was recently revised, he added.
