K'taka beat Kerala by 241 runs,Hyderabad, TN draw against Goa

Panaji, Nov 10 (UNI) Karnataka scored an emphatic 214 runs victory over Kerala to gain four points while Hyderabad and Tamilnadu had to be content with two points each by virtue of their first innings lead against their opponents after their matches ended in tame draws on the last day of the three-day south zone under 15 Polly Umrigar trophy cricket tournament at Margao in south Goa.

Resuming at the overnight score of 46 for no loss, Karnataka piled up 228 for two declared at the end of 54 overs on the strength of Karun Kumar Nair 90 (10x4) in 135 balls, Munnar Mohd 64 (8x4,99b) and Rahul not out 62 (6x4,1x6) and later dismissed Kerala for a paltry 82. Except Adit Ramesh (22), no batsman made any significant contribution for Kerala.

Bharat Kondge four for 23 and Ashwin two for 22 were the successful bowlers for Karnataka.

At Arlem ground, after dismissing Goa for 81 runs in reply to 244 runs and gaining first inning lead of 163 runs, Hyderabad forced to goa to follow on.

Goa, resuming at the overnight score of 15 for no loss, lost first three wickets with a score on the board 68 for three. Keenan Vaz and all rounder Regan Pinto steadied their innings and kept the scoreboard moving. Vaz who played a sheet anchor role, had a patient knock of 64 runs studded with eight hits to the fence and added 73 runs with Reagan Pinto (not out 29) for the fourt wicket before he was out on 64 with a score on the board 141 for four.

At the end of the 11th mandatory overs, out of 15 overs both the captain agreed for a draw with the score on the board 153 for 5 in 106 overs.

In another match played at MCC Ground, Tamilnadu too had to be content with three points by virtue of of first innings lead against Andhra Pradesh when the match ended in a tame draw.

Resuming at the overnight score of 82 for eight in their second inning Tamil Nadu were all out for 128 in 55. 4 overs adding only 46 runs to their total. Shivkoteshwar Rao, who claimed six wickets conceding 35 runs, was the most successful bowler for AP.

While Andhra pradesh in their second inning managed to score 184 for 7 in 83 overs at the close of the last day's play on the strength of G Chiranjivi's brilliant 99 laced with six hits to the fence. He fell short by one run of his well deserved century.

Shivkoteshwar Rao 6 for 35, Mehboob Basha 2 for 50, P Satyanarayan 2 for 8.
