Irom Sharmila's condition deteriorates
New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) The condition of Manipur activist Irom Sharmila, who has been on a fast for the past six years to oppose the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in the northeastern state, has deteriorated over the past three days.
''She has high fever and diarrhoea and is vomiting. She is currently on drip as she cannot be nasal fed,'' Sharmila's associate and activist Kshetrimayum Onil said here today.
He said Sharmila, who has been admitted in AIIMS for over a month, was determined to continue her struggle.
Mr Onil held the Centre and state Government responsible for Sharmila's condition.
''It is shocking that the Governments of India and Manipur have not responded but have been mute spectators.'' Sharmila, 35, started her fast on November 2, 2000, after she read that armed forces personnel had killed 10 civilians near Imphal in Manipur.
She was brought to Delhi in the first week of October.
