Informations at snail pace under RTI Act, alleges Lok Satta

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 10 (UNI) Lok Satta, a recently floated political party, today alleged that the Andhra Pradesh Government's Roads and Buildings Department Superintend Engineer(SE) has asked the party to pay Rs one lakh to provide information relating to tenders under the Right To Information (RTI) Act.

Party said an application dated November 21, 2005 was submitted as per the formalities of RTI Act to the Executive Engineer (EE) of Roads and Buildings Department for information on different tenders.

But the EE failed to respond within statutory period of 30 days and an appeal was filed before the Superintend Engineer on January 22, 2006.

With no response from the Superintend Engineer, a second appeal was filed before the Andhra Pradesh State Information Commission, which advised the Lok Satta to approach Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Commissioner.

Not satisfied with this, the Party further went on to file a petition before the Guntur District Legal Services Authority.

They alleged that consequently, after running hither thither, the Superintend Engineer informed the Party to pay Rs one lakh towards expenses for providing the information.
