Imrana rape case: father-in-law denied bail
Allahabad, Nov 10 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today declined to grant bail to Mohd Ali, alias Ali Mohd, in the much-talked about Imrana rape case of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
After hearing the two parties at length, the court directed to summon the lower court record within two months.
The court fixed December 1 to hear Ali's appeal against conviction by the Muzaffarnagar sessions judge under IPC sections 376 and 506 for ten-year rigourous jail term along with compensation to be paid to Imrana.
Justice M K Mittal passed this order on an appeal against conviction and sentence order filed by Ali, Imrana's father-in-law.
Imrana had lodged an FIR against her father-in-law alleging he had raped her.
The police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet.
On basis of records and evidence available on record, the lower court convicted and sentenced Ali to 10-yeear rigourous term with Rs 8,000 compensation to be paid to Imrana.
The counsel appearing for Ali had contended the convict was 65 years of age and delayed FIR has been lodged against him. It was also pointed out the medical report does not corroborate the prosecution version.
On the contrary, the counsel appearing for Imrana had pleaded her father-in-law had committed a heinous crime and had rightly been convicted by the lower court.
