HC urged to prevent unscheduled closure of schools during sealing

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today took notice of a petition seeking direction to the authorities to ensure at least 210 days of teaching in the schools for the students appering at 10th and 12th board examinations in view of the unscheduled closure of the institutions due to sealing drive in the Capital.

Justice Ravinder Bhat heard the preliminary arguments and transferred the matter to the division bench of acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir for hearing on November 14.

Filing a petition, Manav Adhikar Suraksha Samiti, an NGO, said the students slated to appear in 2007 for 10th and 12th Board examinations were vulnerable due to disturbances in the capital.

The Capital city also urgently required an 'overhaul' in view of the facts that the 2010 Commonwealth Games would be held in New Delhi, the petition said.

''Rampant encroachments, blatant violations of all norms and egregious commercialisation were sqeezing the life out of Delhi while ordinary, law-abiding, honest tax payers were bearing the burnt of the decline and decay,'' said the petition.

The petition has sought directions to the Centre, Delhi Government, CBSE, Delhi Police Commissioner and Director Education of Delhi Government to ensure at least 210 days of teaching in the schools, to reschedule the Board Examinations, to ensure proper law and order situation so that the students study in a peaceful atmosphere.
