HC tells police to carry out Muringoor probe in discreet manner
Kochi, Nov 10 (UNI) The Kerala high court today directed the state police to conduct its investigation into the Muringoor Divine Retreat Centre near Thrissur in a discreet manner.
Justice K R Udaybhanu, while permitting the police to continue its probe, directed the centre not to obstruct the investigation. In case of any obstruction, the police could approach the court for necessary orders.
The high court also directed that there should be enough women constables in the investigation team. The investigation team should also carry identity cards.
The police had launched an investigation into the activities of the Catholic church-run centre following directions from the high court in a suo motu proceedings. The director of the centre had approached the high court, contending that the police raid had obstructed the working of the centre.
The court had ordered the probe following reports of unauthorised medical treatment and wrongful confinement of people at the centre.
