Gill renews perform-or-perish notice to Bhaskaran
New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) Reminding V Bhaskaran that the proverbial sword of Damocles continues to hang precariously over his head, Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) President KPS Gill today reiterated that disaster in the Doha Asian Games would see the Indian coach's head roll and pave way for a foreigner.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a Premier Hockey League function, the IHF chief was asked about the possibility of roping in a foreign coach, which he did not rule out.
''We have to wait till the Asian Games in Doha and everything would depend on how we fare there. Experience says we have done well in short-duration tournaments and Doha would be one such event.
''If we do well there, we would continue with the set-up we have, even though we might go for some specialised, foreign in puts, like goalkeeper coach. But if you don't live up to the expectations, we would consider foreigners for the job,'' he explained.
Under Bhaskaran, India finished a poor 11th in the 12-team World Cup held in Germany but the country's experiement with its first foreign coach Gerhard Rach was not a success either.
Rach had been appointed just before the Athens Olympic Games before the German quit his job after his scathing criticism of the federation.
