Jalna, Maharashtra, Nov 10 (UNI) The Shiv Sena today slammed the Democratic Front (DF) government for ''betraying the people of Maharashtra by not fulfilling assurances given by them in their manifesto''.

Addressing a public rally here, the party's Executive President Uddhav Thackeray said the Congress and NCP have bluffed the people to gain votes during the Assembly elections.

The Shiv Sena leader said the ruling DF had not only betrayed the people but also played with their sentiments.

Mr Thackeray was on a campaign tour of Jalna and neighbouring Parbhani district in Marathwada, where elections to local civic bodies are scheduled to be held towards the end of this month.

He said the Sena-BJP combine had fared much better during its rule as compared to the 50-year rule of the Congress in the state.

Mr Thackeray said his party, which has been ruling in the Jalna Municipal Council, was in a position to retain the power once again, on the basis of its performance.

Criticising the DF government for its failure in addressing issue of suicides by farmers, Mr Thackeray alleged that the government was not willing to say anything on the matter.

He said even after the relief package announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the suicide by farmers had not abated.
