Two accused of desecration of Granth Sahib remanded
Fatehabad, Nov 9 (UNI) A local court today remanded two persons accused of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib to a day's police custody at Tohana town in the district.
The accused had allegedly thrown the Sikh holy book in Bhakra canal at Tohana on Tuesday.
According to reports, a few people had brought the Guru Granth Sahib from village Aherwan in this district and kept them on a vacant government land with the aim of encroachment.
The two accused, Bhola Singh and Baldev Singh, threw the holy book in to the canal flowing through the town.
On the complaint of president of the Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Awtar Singh Nangla, the accused were taken into custody by the police and produced before the judicial magistrate Bhupinder Nath.
The attempts to retrieve the scriptures with the help of three divers, however, went in vain.
In another case, the Judicial Magistrate, Fatehabad, Ritu Y K Behl granted bail to a youth Daljit Singh accused of commiting sacrilege against the sacred Sikh flag, Nishan Sahib, at village Palsar in this district.
Daljit Singh had gone to the village Gurudwara in an inebriated condition on the night of November 4, when Akhand Path of Guru Granth Sahib was in progress.
The accused allegedly urinated on the platform, where the Nishan Sahib had been installed and abused the granthis (priests).
He also played obscene songs on the deck of his car on high volume.
The accused was arrested by the police on November 6 and produced before the court. He was on police remand since then.
