'Smritiyaan', music tribute to tabla wizard Pt Chaturlal tom
Mumbai, Nov 9 (UNI) For the first time in Mumbai, Pandit Birju Maharaj, PadmaVibhushan Pandit Kishen Maharaj and Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra will share the same platform at the Indian classical music and dance concert 'Smritiyaan', a music tribute to the great tabla wizard Pandit Chaturlal at the Shanmukhananda Hall tomorrow.
Pandit Birju Maharaj will perform kathak, PadmaVibhushan Pandit Kishen Maharaj on tabla and Pandit Rajan Sajan Mishra will perform vocal, Pandit Birju Maharaj announced at a press conference here today.
'Smritiyaan' is being organised by Pandit Chaturlal Memorial Society and Vedanta.
He said,''I have shared a very long relationship with Pandit Chaturlal. Even though all art forms like kathak, tabla and music are complete in themselves, Smritiyaan is going to be the sangam of Ganga Jamuna and Saraswati.'' Child prodigy and grandson of the late Pandit Chaturlal, Master Pranshu Chaturlal will pay tribute to his grandfather by performing tabla solo.
On the current trend of fusion music Pandit Birju Maharaj said,'' God has created various flavours like sweet, sour, spicy but some of our Hindustani brothers are mixing it all. It is like viral fever.
There use to be purists like Roshan and Jaidev, but today we can not understand the rhythm whether it is Western or Indian. I always urge the directors that they should show the essence of India. '' UNI LS PM RL RAI2033
