Robin, Reetinder most sought after at Hong Kong Sixes tourney
Hong Kong, Nov 9 (UNI) Defending champions India are the most sought-after team at the nine-nation Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes starting at Kowloon Cricket Club here.
At the practice venue at Hong Kong Cricket Club ground, one could see former England players Darren Gough and Dominic Cork volunteering to sign the small bats that tiny-tots were carrying.
In contrast, cricket fans asked the whereabouts of Indian players, especially of Reetinder Singh Sodhi and captain Robin Singh, though they had to return disappointed after learning that the Indians are arriving only tomorrow.
''Is Sodhi (Reetinder Singh Sodhi) coming?'' was the general query from most of the Indian origin fans.
Reetinder was the player of the tournament last year.
''He is a player with a lot of potential. But why is he not part of the main Indian team?'' asked Chei Wen.
Similarly, Robin Singh is another cricketer who was adored by fans in this part of the world.
''He's a clever cricketer and knows how to make the most of the gaps on the field,'' said Ravleen Singh, the mother of two, who accompanied her children to the practice venue today.
Robin Singh played a crucial part in last year's the final with a fine 34 before retiring.
''I will be there on the weekends at the KCC with the kids.
For us, this is a kind of entertainment because we don't get to watch much of competitive cricket here,'' she reasoned.
