Officials seize 500 helmets sans ISI mark in Bangalore
Bangalore, Nov 9 (UNI) Officials belonging to the Department of Weights and Measures today seized 500 helmets in the city following complaints that traders were cheating the public by selling fake ISI marked helmets.
With the rule that made wearing of ISI marked helmets by two-wheeler riders compulsory from November one, many sellers, including wholesale dealers, were indulging in selling helmets with fake ISI marks.
The officials conducted raids in many parts of the city and confiscated 500 helmets and filed cases against the traders, an official release here said.
Following the implementation of the rule, the demand for helmets had reached a peak in the city, which boasted of the highest number of over 12 lakh two wheelers. This had led to the sale of unbranded helmets on the road side and traders resorting to fleecing motorcyclists by charging exorbitant rates for helmets with ISI marks.
