OCA Committee arrives to evaluate Delhi's 2014 Asian Games bid

New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) India's bid for hosting 2014 Asian Games will be subjected to close scrutiny by the Evaluation Committee of Olympic Council of Asia, headed by OCA vice president Celso Dayrit which arrives here today.

The capital city, which is hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games, is bidding to host the 2014 Asian Games and it is expected to have a tough fight with the South Korean city of Incheon, which is the only other city bidding for the continental Games.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Delhi Government will give a detailed presentation to the five-member committee tomorrow on the infrastructure and facilities in Delhi in the presence of Lt Goivernor B L Joshi, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, Union Minister for Youth Affiars and Sports Mani Shankar Aiyar, IOA president Suresh Kalmadi and OCA General Secretary Randhir Singh.

The other four members of the committee are Mrs Natalya Sipovich, Mr Abdul Ghani Tabhalat, Mr Haider Farman and Mr Vinod Kumar Tiwari.

The committee will also visit the facilities at RK Khanna Tennis Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and the proposed Games village site.

Sports Authority of India and Delhi Development Authority will give presentations before the committee on the suitability and preparedness of these facilities.

The committee will also witness a children's cultural programme at Delhi Public School during their three-day itinerary in the capital.

The visit of the Evaluation Committee is very important as the OCA will be guided by the Committee's recommendations for awarding of 2014 Asian Games, an IOA release stated here today.

The Committee is scheduled to visit South Korean city of Incheon from November 12 to 14.

The voting for deciding the 2014 continental games will take place in April next year.
