No Al-Qaeda terrorists in Tamil Nadu: DGP

Chennai, Nov 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) D Mukherjee today asserted that there was no presence of Al-Qaeda terrorist outfit in the state.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said ''we have no input on the presence of Al-Qaeda in Tamil Nadu, but the police would not take any chances.'' He said the state police on its own, had no inputs (on Al-Qaeda), but had received a specific input from its ''sister agency'' about threat to Kalpakkam Atomic Station during Independence day, after which security had been beefed up.

The security was kept on high alert at Atomic power station for nearly a month following the threat and later gradually scaled down, Mr Mukherjee said.

He said security was beefed up in all Airports in the state following the receipt of a letter from 'Al-Qaeda' that its terrorists would attack the airports at Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai and Kerala with car bombs.
