MP Assy passes bill on office of profit
Bhopal, Nov 9 (UNI) Amid protest by the opposition parties, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today passed by a voice vote the Legislature (Disqualification of Membership) Amendment Bill, 2006 that aims at providing relief to MLAs occupying certain other offices of profit.
The bill will be deemed effective from December 5, 2003.
''The amendment was effected for saving the Chief Minister, a dozen of his ministerial colleagues and a few legislators. I have filed pleas before the Election Commission in this regard,'' said Leader of the Opposition Jamuna Devi.
Mr Ramlakhan Sharma (Communist Party of India-Marxist) said that the BJP protested when such a bill was brought in Parliament.
''The philosophy behind the amendement was to ensure that the common man benefits from senior MLAs' experiences,'' Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra claimed.
Further amendments proposed by Congress members Satyadev Katare and Ramnivas Rawat were rejected.
The Madhya Pradesh Forest Produce (Trade Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2006 was passed unanimously after an amendment.
