Mizoram earns Rs five crore from surplus power every year
Aizawl, Nov 9 (UNI) The Mizoram power and electricity department has been earning about Rs five crore every year by selling more than 25 MW units of power to other states during past two years.
Talking to UNI here, Additional Chief Engineer H L Parthasarathy today stated that an agreement has already been made in 2005 with the Tata Power Company Ltd (TPCL) to sell power at a competitive price.
The power supply contract would be renewed every year with TCPL, he said adding we are expecting to earn more profit this year.
Mr Parthasarathy further said ''we have surplus power especially during monsoon, which made us to spare 25 MW power to other states''.
''Mizoram also have a share of 87 MW from the Central Power Project while our actual demand is around 65 MW'', he said adding selling power units will not only improve the revenue of the department but also it will help to reduce the power tarrif where ever it is possible.
''We should not forget that our micro/mini hydel projects and our thermal projects have also played a vital role for selling out power to other states,'' he pointed out.
Parthasarathy underlined that 20 MW power is being sold during off peak season and 5 MW during peak period.
