Megh Women Com demands punitive action against doctor

Shillong, Nov 9 (UNI) The Meghalaya State Commission for Women(MSCW) has demanded punitive action against a doctor for refusing to examine a four-year-old girl allegedly raped by a teenager.

The refusal by Dr Felix Majaw came to light when the relatives of the victims brought up the matter before the Chairman of State Women Commission here yesterday.

As per the complaint, MSCW Chairperson Dr Biloris Lyndem said the incident occurred on October 18 when one Banropborlang Myrboh allegedly raped the little girl at Mawryngkneng Nongdawah village in the state's East Khasi Hills district.

The victim's mother informed the Commission that when she took her child to Dr Majaw to Mawryngkneng Public Health Centre, he 'refused' to attend her and even suggested that the child be taken to the city hospital.

Dr Lyndem said the Commission had already lodged a complaint with state Commissioner and Secretary Health and Family Welfare P Naik to take action against the irresponsible behaviour of the doctor.
