Man arrested for barging into residence of Jaya

Chennai, Nov 9: Police has arrested a 48-year-old mentally deranged person for barging into the residence of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at her posh Poes Gardens here.

Police said, the arrested Karthik Joswa, hailing from suburban Thandalam, was picked by the police when he got into a quarrel with a commuter in a private engineering college bus at suburban Nandambakkam in an inebriated condition and refused to get down from the bus.

A knife and an iron-rod were seized from him.

A case has been registered against him under various sections of the IPC and he was remanded to judicial custody.

Earlier, the arrested gained entry into the compound, amidst, tight security surrounding the residence of Ms Jayalalithaa.

The man came on a two-wheeler, parked it outside the house and entered through the open wicket gate. Wielding a big knife and an iron rod, he shouted slogans against the AIADMK supremo.

Hearing the noise, the mufti-policeman on duty alerted his colleagues, who were resting in their quarters inside the house, and by the time they came out rushing, Karthik escaped, commandeering a passing car.

When the man threatened the car driver, the latter pleaded him that he had to pick up the children from school, but he would not relent. He travelled in the car upto the main road, where he alighted and took an auto, police added.

Later, a police party came to the spot and the two-wheeler was impounded.

Miss Jayalalithaa was then away at her Siruthavur residence on the outskirts of the city.
