Mah govt asked to file affidavit on medical college fee status

Mumbai, Nov 9 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the state government to file an affidavit by November 14 regarding the Maharashtra structure to be implemented for unaided private medical colleges.

The court has sought to know from the state government as to by when the Shikshan Shulka Samiti, the committee responsible for determining the fee structure, would finalise the same.

A division bench comprising justices B H Marlapalle and J H Bhatia was hearing a petition filed by the Parents Association of Medical Students (PAMS) alleging that five unaided private medical colleges, which claimed the status of deemed universities, were charging fees more than that fixed by the committee.

The court orally observed that it was the state's responsibility to decide whether the universities were deemed or not.

Meanwhile, Ms R M Sidhwa, a parent, told UNI, ''When our children took admission in the first year, these colleges were not deemed. We do not have a problem if they are declared as such from next year.

but the students should be associated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.'' UNI ARM MJ/MAZ SB RN1908
