JSEB reduces its loss upto 43 per cent
Ranchi, Nov 9 (UNI) Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) has brought down its transmission and distribution losses upto 43 per cent in last two years by launching intense anti-power theft drive.
The electricity board has also initiated metering on all consumer points.
A statement issued by JSEB here said that due to high tariff of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) power, the board continues to incur heavy losses in supplying power to its consumers in DVC command area.
The territorial jurisdiction of Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Chatra, Koderma and Giridih districts fall under the command area of DVC, where JSEB continues to purchase power from DVC.
Apart from this, JSEB also supplies DVC power to a part of east Singhbhum disrict.
The statement stated that board was purchasing on average around Rs 21 crore units per month from DVC costing around Rs 60 crore per month on an average rate of Rs 2.83 per unit, while total assessment in only around Rs 42 crore per month.
There was a gap of around 18 crore in the power purchase bill and assessment inspite the fact that board has reduced the transmission and distribution losses to around 40 per cent in DVC area.
On the other hand, the board has borne an expenditure Rs 66.26 crore per month for power supply for outside the command area for average energy intake of 33.13 crore including own generation from Patratu and Sikidri on an average rate of Rs 2 per unit in the financial year 2005-06, which went down to Rs 1.79 per unit in the financial year 2006-07.
The board made payment of Rs 60.81 crore per month for 33.97 crore unit in the current financial year against the total assessment made-out to Rs 82.35 crore and collection is Rs 63.82 crore per month.
