Indian women go down 1-2 against Mynamar in AFC U-19 tourney
New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) India's quest for a top two finish in the qualification round of the AFC U-19 Women's Championship 2007 suffered a setback with a 1-2 defeat against Myanmar in a Group 'A' tie in Kuala Lumpur today.
After drubbing Jordan 4-0 in their opening match of the round robin league, a win today would have put India in a strong position to be in the top two bracket in the five-team group and qualify for the main tournament next year.
However, Myanmar proved to be a stronger team and they led India 2-0 at half time. India pressed hard for an equaliser after Lalvarmoi Hmar reduced the margin in the second half, but Myanmar defence held fort till the end, according to information received here today.
India are expected to beat lowly Singapore -- who lost 0-17 to Thailand on Tuesday -- in their next match on Saturday. But, they have to beat Thailand on November 15 if they want to qualify for the main tournament.
Top two teams from the five-team group qualify for the AFC Under-19 Championship 2007.
