Delhi sealing day II: 66 units including Haldiram sealed
New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) Municipal Corporation of Delhi today sealed 66 units in South Delhi, taking the total number of unauthorised commercial establishments in residential areas shut down in the city since the drive began yesterday to 237.
In MCD's central zone, 62 units were sealed on the Ring Road, Lajpat Nagar III and IV. Major properties sealed during the day included Haldiram, Regency Guest House, Nirmal Furnishing, IGP Mall, Seeta Play School and all Air Hostess Academy.
The Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee today visited Sarvodaya Enclave in south zone where it inspected the Sarvodaya Enclave Community Centre. It was found that commercial activity was going on behind the facade of community centre. Its four units were sealed by MCD teams. These comprised one gym and two offices in the basement and one office on the ground floor.
The sealing operation in both the zones went off peacefully.
Elsewhere, 19 BJP MLAs and about 600 of their supporters were detained by the city police at Ajmeri Gate in Central Delhi when they were proceeding from the State Assembly to the Prime Minister's residence in form of a rally to protest against the sealings. They were later released.
Meanwhile, traders in the national capital called for a bandh tomorrow in protest against resumption of sealing.
All markets would be closed, claimed Mr Ramesh Khanna, Vice President of Confederation of All India Traders, which was spearheading the traders agitation against the sealing drive.
The traders would also organise a rally in the evening from Chandni Chowk to Delhi Assembly demanding an immediate stop to sealing and also that the authorities did not ''harass'' the confederation leaders.
