Damage in floods in 3 AP dists estimated at Rs 6191 cr

Guntur, Nov 9 (UNI) The damage caused by the recent flood following the cyclonic storm in the three coastal districts of Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam was officially estimated at Rs 6191 crore, Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao said today.

Speaking at a meeting of the officers to review flood relief and rehabilitation programme at the coastal town of Bapatla in this district last night, he said Rs 5,000 crore was needed to modernise the drains in the Krishna delta system to prevent recurrence of stagnation of flood water in agricultural fields.

A central team of officers and engineers were going around the flood ravaged areas today to assess the loss.
