Court seeks report from J'khand govt on juvenile homes
Ranchi, Nov 9 (UNI) Expressing annoyance over condition of juvenile centres in Jharkhand, the High Court today directed the state government to furnish details about the present status report of child observation home in the state.
The court said it would visit the two observation homes at Ranchi and Deoghar on November 10 and 19 respectively to take an on-the-spot assessment.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Muthusamy Karpagavinaygam and justice Permod Kohli passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by Bal Sakha, an NGO.
Dilip Jerath appearing on behalf of the petitioner informed the court that the observation home at Ranchi can house a maximum of 50 juveniles and aan equal number can be accommodated at Deoghar.
But there are around 74 juveniles at Ranchi and 241 at Deoghar, he said.
The court while wanting to know the nature of juvenile crime and the kind of crime they committed also directed the government that if the juveniles had been booked under petty crime (below seven years) the case should be disposed at the earliest.
